Dear All,
I want to install Solaris 10 OS on my PC.
The PC configuration being Gigabayte 8I865-GME-775-RH motherboard with
Seagate Baraccuda 80 GB SATA HDD, LG DVD Writer, 512 MB RAM, floppy
drive.
I am having the Solaris CD which is being distributed by Sun
Microsystems free of cost.
When i try to install Solaris 10 on my PC, the pc boots on the CD, the
setup in GUI runs for some time doing setup tasks but then it says
that there is no hard disk in the system.
It is being detected by the BIOS.
So how to install Solaris on a SATA HDD?
The controller for SATA is Intel Control Hub 5 (ICH5).
So from where can i get Solaris drivers for the same and how to supply
it to the OS during setup so that HDD can be detected?
I remember that while setting up Windows XP on this SATA HDD , i have
pressed F6 and supplied the drivers using floppy disk to setup. What
is the same process about Solaris 10?

Thanks in advance.

No, Solaris 10 has built-in support for ICH5 and ICH5R. No extra
driver is needed.

However, your SATA controller needs to be configured by BIOS for PATA
emulation module -- if you have it set up for hardware RAID, it won't
work. Native SATA support for *ICH6* shows up in Nevada build 56.

Thanks for the information.
I want to make it dual boot with my existing OS Windows XP.
So do the BIOS settings suggested by you will affect the Windows XP
installation?
Can i successfully make it to boot dually with Windows XP? Any
suggestions?
Do revert.

I would suggest you install Solaris 10x86 in a VMWare container. I
currently have this setup and it works beautifully.
