Hi

I had logged in to my V480R SUN server , I logged in from the main
Console (Monitor) with my own account and not the root account , But
the interface has got stuck at the login screen , it is giving an error
message user shell not found in /etc/shell and is unable to exit from
that screen, I have checked my entry in /etc/passwd and the shell entry
is /bin/bash whereas in the /etc/shell account it is /usr/bin/bash.
I logged in Remotely and changed the entry to /usr/bin/bash . If i try
STOP+A , then at ok prompt type go , will i be able to login . Is there
Anything else i can try . PLease Help . ? I do not want top experiment
due to the criticality of my server. And do not want to restart also.
Thanks

Can you log in from elswhere and kill the login process on the console?
I'm not certain that I'm using the proper terminology but it seems to me
that killing the offending process is the way to go.

And, while you're at it, why not edit /etc/shell and add /bin/bash
