Hi!
Firstly, is there a moderator for this group? It's just I'm seeing a lot
of stuff that is titled (eg) Solaris 2.6, that scrolls off my little
screen, and makes it a pain of a thread to read. If there is a
moderator, is there anything you can do with these types threads?
Next, is an FAQ for this group maintained? No, I don't mean the Solaris
FAQ, either. Just frequently posted questions/answers.
Finally, for platform specific stuff, how about setting up :
comp.unix.solaris.sparc
comp.unix.solaris.x86
comp.unix.solaris.ppc
Sun should support this, and they may get a better idea of who's out
there. It'd make it easier when talking platform specific stuff
(drivers, patch stuff, packages et al). It'd free up this news group for
the discussion of the OS, as opposed to platform specific issues.

Please, Comment away!

I don't think this is good idea. Solaris versions are jus like one...
if you'd try to create such groups, you should even go to news.groups and
look at it how newsgroups are created.

There both the same once the systems are up and running, but most
of the Solaris x86 questions are about getting a system up or figuring
out why Solaris x86 keeps crashing. All hardware/software install
problems.

And as far as Solaris version being just like one, I agree. One version
is supported (Sparc) and the other one isn't (x86) and PPC looks like
it's been killed off.

Because PowerPC has failed to gain broad market acceptance, the next
major release of Solaris (2.6) will not support it.

Carl

And on the supject of the extra newgroup, how about a solaris.setup or
similar? Seperate the install and the operation?
