Browsing around the directories, come across a binary named hydrogen.
It's been there since the system was installed, on a couple of machines,
but no man page for it. Apprently written by an outfit calling themselves
immunity:

http://www.immunityinc.com/products-hydrogen.shtml

Who describe it as a "remote access trojan" ???.

Not much info from google and am wondering why this is a part of the
install for S10 ?. Afaik, it's never run and it's not listed as a
service, so what's it there for ?...

Regards,

Chris

Hi Chris,

I don't have access to my usual resources but I can double check on
Monday.

I did a google search and I see it listed in an Oracle Solaris 10
Evolution patch.
Fedora info says its an alternative drum machine.

Someone else can probably confirm.

Thanks, Cindy

Cindy,

Thanks for the reply. There were some links from google to the hydrogen
drum machine, but couldn't understand how such a thing could be part of
Solaris :-). However, if you run it with a --help flag, there are
flags to disable the sound server, so perhaps it's just something
from Gnome that got left in the build.

Seems a good idea to scan around to look for oddities from time to
time, just as it's usefull to be familiar with the machine's normal
process list. Anyway, the binary is renamed to something else now...

Regards,

Chris

I agree that your admin radar for strange binaries is a good thing.

I logged into MOS and got 4500+ search hits on Solaris 10 hydrogen so
I hope that makes you feel better.

Another option is if this doesn't turn up in a pkginfo search, then
you can load up the media and do something like this:

# egrep 'hydrogen' /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris_10xx/Product/*/pkgmap

Thanks, Cindy

Hi,

hydrogen is part of the SUNWevolution-socs-connect package.
Purpose of that package: Sun One Calendar Server Connector for Evolution

Sven

Thanks - a bit more digging into packages produced this:

# Following packages provide interfaces to MS products:
# SOCS: Sun One Calendar Server
SUNWevolution-exchange Exchange connector for Evolution [u]
SUNWevolution-exchange-root Exchange connector for Evolution [r]
SUNWevolution-exchange-share Exchange connector for Evolution [s]
SUNWevolution-socs-connect SOCS connector for Evolution
SUNWevolution-socs-connect-share SOCS connector for Evolution [s]

I don't need anything Microsoft related, so have just removed the above
packages, hydrogen has gone away as well...

Regards,

Chris

It's a part of the package:

SUNWevolution-socs-connect Sun One Calendar Server Connector for Evolution

(So as part of the SUNWevolution, the mail and calendar package; to connect it
to the Sun One Calendar server)

They still bundle that garbage with solaris?

Is there a gopher client installed out of the box too?
