Hi,

You could install Solaris 10 X86 on any X86-based system, or, install
Solaris 10 X86 under something like VMWare running on a Windows machine.

The physically smallest hardware is probably your laptop, if you have
one. An Ultra 5 is about the size of a desktop version of "PC
vulgaris". An Ultra 10 is about the size of a PC "micro tower". Either
machine is generally available on e-Bay for less than $100 US.

If you want something a little faster and a little more recent look for
a "Blade 100" or a "Blade 150". You will want a machine with at least
256MB of RAM. Disks for the Ultra 5/10 are standard 3-1/2" IDE disks;
I'd say that the minimum useful size is 20GB and the maximum size, due
to Sun IDE controller limitations, is 127 GB. You can install and use a
larger disk but the controller will not see anything past the 127 GB mark.

I highly recommend the Ultra 10. The 5 and the 10 use the same mother
board but the 10 has a larger power supply, two drive bays for 3-1/2"
disks instead of only one, and room to install 256 MB DIMMs.
