I'm trying to get Firefox 52 running on a Solaris 10 update 11 system.
This is the i386 version on a Sun Ultra 20M2.

The file I downloaded is:
firefox-52.0.2esr.en-US.solaris-10-fcs-i386.tar.bz2

The browser comes up and will load duckduckgo.com. But when I try to edit
preferences it crashes with this message:

Crash Annotation GraphicsCriticalError: |[C0][GFX1-]: Receive IPC close with reason=AbnormalShutdown (t=51.7078) [GFX1-]: Receive IPC close with reason=AbnormalShutdown
[Child 13399] ###!!! ABORT: Aborting on channel error.: file /export/home/mozilla/packages/BUILD/SFWfirefox/mozilla/ipc/glue/MessageChannel.cpp, line 2143
[Child 13399] ###!!! ABORT: Aborting on channel error.: file /export/home/mozilla/packages/BUILD/SFWfirefox/mozilla/ipc/glue/MessageChannel.cpp, line 2143

There is no SFWfirefox directory anywhere on the system, nor a
MessageChannel.cpp, so I'm concluding that there are missing files I need
to find somewhere to complete the installation.

Anybody else confronted this, and how do I fix it?

Hank

You want to un-conclude that - they are files that were *used* to build
that version of FireFox, they don't need to be on your system.

The last FireFox I was able to run on Solaris 10 x64 was
firefox-45.2.0esr.en-US.solaris-10-fcs-i386-pkg.bz2, which probably
doesn't help.

Cheers,

Hi,

I have ESR 52.0 32-bit on a SunOS 5.10 Generic_147147-26 sun4u sparc
SUNW,Sun-Blade-2500

-> (2x US IIIi 64 bit)

"out of the box" -> mozilla ftp download running.

afaik it should run on x86-64 , too

try

ldd path/to/your/firefox

and check the result for errors......

Another thing that won't help is that I have Solaris 11.4 with
firefox 52 running on a Sunfire X2100 which has 4 GB RAM.

I want to be able to stream youtube on the Solaris machine
and Firefox 52 lets me do that. I use a USB audio card for
sound.

I would like to recommend the USB sound card. It works
under Solaris 11, Windows, and Mac OSX.
Its great for rack mount servers that don't have sound hardware.
And they are very cheap!

I was able to get Firefox 52 ESR to work on Solaris 10. The key is to change the user and group ownership. You will need the 'bunzip2' program preinstalled to unpack the file.

[root@System:/root/Download]# wget http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.0esr/contrib/solaris_tarball/firefox-52.0esr.en-US.solaris-10-fcs-i386.tar.bz2
