Syntax enable new extensions

Hi I'm using Vim 7.0 and have syntax on. I didn't define any syntax in
my home directory but syntax is enabled by default and I'd like to keep
it that way.
How do I apply the existing syntax to new extensions? In our system we
keep stored procedures with the .sp extension and I'd like this to pick
up the .sql syntax highlighting.
