SCO OSR6/mp4 - NFS very slow.
syslog has a TON of error messages from lockd:
lockd[8840]: cont_test: return value 7 is not known
any ideas?

Looking at the lockd man page:

Is statd running? On both the client and the server?
Is lockd running on the other machine?
try "nfsping -a"
Maybe try just a stop/start of NFS on one or both machines
if you have root access.
