I had to bought a seperate SCSI adapter for my ML310 G5 system, because
all of the harware is PCI express. I looked in the Hardware
Compatibility site and tells me the MPT driver is using.

Now the tape unit will be installed on the customers site.
By starting the server I can see the card, but SCO6 will not see it with
sdiconfig.

If I setup the tape unit on my system and start SCO6, will SCO6 see my
tapeunit and SCSI controller.

I'm stuck on SCO5, so my knowlegde is not so great on SCO6

John

Have you done *all* the available updates? And this is precisely the
sort of thing you should be able to call SCO about.

Also, can you see the cards with a Knoppix live CD on both systems?

And last, if your requirements re not performance sensitive, seriously
consider installing a VMWare or other virtualiztion service instead,
ideally VMWare ESX if you have the budget, and run your SCO under
that. Because SCO is bankrupt, the president has left the company, its
userbase is shrinking, etc., it makes good sense to keep your old
applications available in a stable, virtualized environment. VMWare
has taken up official support for OpenServer as a guest environment,
so your hardware compatibility issues should be covered.

Performance is very important.
Tell me, how do you telnet the virtual SCO from a remote windows client?

I always, always, always install OpenSSH. OpenServer 5.0.7 has a good
software bundle available for it, which also works on 5.0.6 with
patches, and I'm sure it's available in OpenServer 6. That allows
making SSH connections, which can also gracefully handle X
applications. In that case, once it's installed and running, I'd open
a termal window or an X terminal window and type "ssh $targethost".
It's a fully emulated operating system, it provides the same telnet
and shell access as a standard system would.

Now all virtual servers provide console access to the guest
environments as well, so you can have emulated console access from a
virtual server management tool as well, in case you need access to the
virtualized system's console.

Forgive me, I wasn't clear about the Windows client side. The
virtualized OS is a node on your network. It has an IP address, it can
be set up to look like it has a different MAC address and hostname on
your network. You can register the IP address as a hostname, or use
the IP address, and use a Windows SSH client like Putty to access it.

Morning John,

You need to load the mpt driver onto the system.

For generic detials on how to install a HBA see:

For specific details on loading the MPT driver see:

Thank's John,

That's an answere I can work with. I see the controller now and will
install the tapeunit without problems.

Nice to hear you again, John.
