Hi,

I have SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 and a hp NetServer LC2000 U3 server. The hard
disks run off the server RAID controller (amird)

I am trying to get the tape to work, it is attached to the embedded scsi
(slha) but when I mkdev tape and reboot, the system doesnt see it at startup
or work when i try to send a command to it...

Has anyone come accross this before...
Cheers
Chris

What are the four parameters you used for the tape on the slha adapter?

Run "sconf -v" (only on 5.0.5 and better) and be sure that the
parameters seen (bus, id, lun) match up with what's in
/etc/conf/cf.d/mscsi

If not, edit mscsi, relink and reboot.

Hi,

mscsi shows

slha Stp 0 2 0 0 (I have tried lots of diffent values here...It is the only
Symbios adaptor and i am attached to Channel A)

However, sconf -v doesnt have an Stp line showing at all...

Any thoughts??

Thoughts? Sure lots of things.. my shoulder hurts, I'm a few hours late
for lunch, I have to get up early tomorrow.. oh, you meant about this.

Yes. That means that the slha driver is not seeing your card, or isn't
seeing devices attached to that card. If the CTRL-A bios shows it, then
I'd say it is a driver problem- I had something just like this with a
29160 that was ultimately fixed by a new driver. Check
ftp://ftp.caldera.com/pub/openserver5/drivers for a newer version.

Until sconf -v sees it, don't even bother with mscsi. Once it does,
just edit to match, relink and reboot.

It's not going to have an Stp line but it should show the adapter, id,
etc. See "man sconf"

There doesnt appear to be a newer version at the ftp site, in fact they only
appear to have adaptec drivers there...

I am beginning to think its not possible. Might have to add a new scsi card
to control the tape and disable the ultra3 on board :(

Cheers

(BTLDPCI 4.11.00 - 08/29/00 ) and all works fine..

Thanks for your help...

That driver works ?! Ok, now I'm in shocked.

The driver version distributed by HP on the Network Navigator (vM.04.00) is
stamped as version 41100 upon boot-up, similarly dated as above. I
k-attempted to use this on the newer revision of the LC2000 and the LH6000
using the Ultra3 LSI (ex-symbios) onboard controllers, and was rewared by
traps immediately after the kernel boot!

In contacting HP, they then stated "oh, umm, well we don't have a driver for
those controllers under SCO yet".

The difference here was however that I was attempting to use OSR5.0.6. I've
not yet attempted OSR5.0.5 on these machines.

For the moment, we went with the 3rd party SCSI controller (an Adaptec of
some kind, ad160 driver).

Has anybody else had experience with trying to use an LSI Ultra3 SCSI
controller under 5.0.6 yet?
