running SCO Unix OSR5.06a,
I have to install Progress V9.1 on this server box (actually running
Progress V8.3E11), so I have to first install JDK and JRE platform.
But when I go to http://www.sco.com/developers/java
and click on "download" link for the appropriate SCO box it goes to
http://www.sco.com/support/download
I tried severals links (ftp download, skrunkware, OSR 5.06), but don't
find the nice files to download.
Could you please point me the right way ?
Thank's.

and also OSRcompat package ?
Thank's.

I don't have any clients running 5.0.6 any more so I can't say this
from personal experience, but according to the instructions for the
Java 1.3x installation on SCO's site, it works on a properly patched
5.0.6 system. The notes for Java 1.4x say it only works on 5.0.7
and above, so you're probably stuck with 1.3x.
Now, where to find it? Oddly enough, it's not in the list of
updates for 5.0.6. But if you look at the list of updates for
5.0.7, you'll see it in the list.

Say hi to my cat -- http://www.stevedunn.ca/photos/toby/
Hi Stephen,
thank's for your answer; well, I downloaded the JRE V1.3.1.
I installed th OSRcompat package from the UW and OSR dev Kit Media V7.1.1.
But when trying to install JRE, I get the error message that OSRcompat
module isn't present in custom (right, because installed as a package
via pkgadd).
So I don't know what to do.
Regards.

Frederic,
What version of Java do you need?
Have a look at:
http://www.sco.com/support/update/download/release.php?rid=327
for Java 1.3.1_22.
For the UDK runtime modules (aka OSRcompat) see:
http://www.sco.com/support/update/download/release.php?rid=273
Please note that 5.0.6 is obsolete so I am not sure if the UDK
runtime modules will install and run on 5.0.6.

Hi John,
thank's for the links.
As these files are in 5.07 list, I was afraid to install it on 5.06a.
So I installed OSRCompat V8.0.2Ca + JRE 1.3.1_22 under my OSR5.06a test
box (before deploying on production server)with apparently no problem,
no-error.
I'll now install Progress V9.1E and take this topic inform if it'll work
or not.
Regards.

Hi everybody,
The Progress V9.1E could be installed with no error.
So OSRcompat + Java + Progress V9 work well, I now just have to make
working Progress V8 and V9 on the same server, but it's a
comp.database.progress topic.
Regards.

Cost of an updated license is the only reason not to update from
5.0.6a to 5.0.7, and the time you waste trying to resolve dependencies
like this is a very good reason to update to that last version. 5.0.7
also installs far more easily in virtualization, is compatible with
more hardware, and has the excellent "gnutools" bundle for getting a
well integrated GNU toolchain, and well-built OpenSSH packages.
Seriously, upgrade from 5.0.6a if you can, even if you're thinking of
abandoning SCO for other reasons.
