I'm having difficulty installing SCO OperServer 5.0.2 (Free SCO
Openserver) onto a 486. Hardware includes two physical IDE drives,
3.8GB (5 DOS [FAT] partitions followed by one unformatted partition for
SCO) + 420MB.

I am attempting to install from an ATAPI CDROM (Master on 2nd IDE
channel)

UNIX boots (eventually) but after the device list there is a message
something like "no boot disk controller".

Later, it crashes out immediately after the timezone details have been
entered with the following message:

"NOTICE ram: No space on device on device 31/50."

UNIX then closes down with the Safe to switch off/any key to continue
messages.

Any ideas?

There is a known problem with IDE drives over 2G, you will need the Boot
Time Loadable Driver (BTLD) oss451b which is available from the SCO
support site, (www.sco.com).

Get it, create the BTLD disk, and use the following boot string for your
install at the "Boot:" prompt.

"biosgeom restart ahslink=wd"

And then supply the BTLD disk when requested, it should make all the
difference.

Regards, David.

You can't use LBA mode in the BIOS of your machine.
Try with normal mode. It works with me.
