Hi, we have an accounts system that is running Openserver 5.X and we would
like to create a printer that send it's print jobs off to an IP address, the
supplier/maintainer of the accounts system has done this for us once before
but they are taking their time getting back to me so I'd like to do it
myself but I'm not sure how to.

The reason I need to do this is so that we can send print jobs from Unix to
Novell Netware 5.1 which is running NDPS, as long as the printers on Netware
and Unix have the same name Unix can send the print job to Netware by using
its IP address and I presume the port 515 (LPR).

Does anyone know what steps on the Unix server I have to take to set this up
?.

p.s. the Unix server allready has numerous printers setup on it so if I set
another up I presume that if I do the above it will not affect their setup
?.

Thanks.

Clive.

# scoadmin printer

then select -

Printer -> Add remote -> UNIX

Then fill out the details, not forgetting to uncheck the
Use Extended Printing Protocol checkbox.

I use netcat - its quite self explanatory, and straight forward.

Jeff Lieberman (I think) provides a list of port numbers for various print
server devices,
and I have used these to guestimate a few other ebedded ones.

Download from (results of a quick search)

Hope this helps.
