Openserver 5.0.6a
Supermicro P4DCE+ motherboard Dual Intel XEON 2.2 MHZ CPU
When system boot it shows CPU clock 2.18GHZ.

%kernel - - - rel=3.2v5.0.6 kid=2000-07-27
%cpu - - - unit=1 family=15 type=Intel Xeon
%cpuid - - - unit=1 vend=GenuineIntel
tfms=0:15:2:4(11)

%pci 0x0CF8-0x0CFF - - am=1 sc=1 buses=5
%PnP - - - nodes=0
%clock - - - type=TSC/2180769788Hz

In cpu report it only shows CPU speed 2.076GHZ.

Report about cpu for host1 on Wed Oct 23 08:50:59 2002

There are 2 CPUs on this system.
Maximum: 10
Configured: 2
Active: 2

CPU 1 performs like a 2076Mhz Intel Xeon

Processor: 1 (0xffffe)
Vendor ID: GenuineIntel
cpu_family: 15
cpu_id: 0x0b000f24
type: 0
family: 15
model: 2
stepping: 4
brandId: 11

I have another server with the same Motherboard, cpu is 1.7GHZ XEON
and cpu report shows the right speed.
Openserver 5.0.6a included the patch for P4 CPU.

Any idea?

Some of those are more explainable than others.

For instance:

> 120mhz Pentium The CPU performs like a 113Mhz Intel Pentium

A 100Mhz Pentium typically runs the bus at 66MHz, while the 120MHz
Pentium uses the 60MHz bus, so that whil the CPU is 20% faster the
bus is 10% slower. Thankfully we don't have to play those games on
new machines.

100Mhz * 20% = 120MHz.[cpu speed difference]
120 - 10% = 112MHz - [bus speed compensation].

That means the ideal chips in that ere were 100, 133 and 166 as
they all used the 66MHz bus.

Sort of like the old horsepower wars from Detroit a long time ago -
bigger engines didn't neccesarily go faster :-)

I'm not sure how exact the speeds at which CPUs run are - if your
system actually runs it at precisely 2 200 000 000 Hz or if it might
be off slightly. 2.18 is only 1% different from 2.2.

And, if you remember your scientific notation from science class,
2.2 is not an exact number - it includes any value which, rounded
off to two significant digits, comes to 2.2. 2.18 is such a value
(as are 2.1525609825604896 and 2.2492098672460894560489
and a whole bunch of other numbers). So if Intel claims 2.2 GHz,
2.18 GHz is an acceptable value from a scientific perspective.

$| In cpu report it only shows CPU speed 2.076GHZ.

A bit farther off, but also not usually a problem in practice. This
this is a derived value - some kind of loop is run and timed*, and
the result is compared to stored values for various processors. Two
identical CPUs could return different ratings if other aspects
of system performance (memory bandwidth, cache efficiency) cause
them to perform differently.

*: actually, it's more likely that a loop is run for a fixed
time period and the number of completed loops is used; otherwise,
fast CPUs run the loop too quickly to measure, or if you make it a
big loop to compensate, slower CPUs take too long to run it.

$ 200mhz Pentium The CPU performs like a 189Mhz Intel Pentium

OSR5.0.5 rated my old P200 system at 189, too.

Some more examples (all with the appropriate microcode updates
applied):

5.0.5, PIII 500: Unix reports Pentium II 509 MHz
5.0.4, PII 233: Pentium II 233
5.0.4, PIII 900*: Pentium II 991
5.0.5, PIII 600*: Pentium II 607

*: I don't have the specs handy for those boxes

Libei, chances are the speedometer in your car doesn't report
accurately, either - most cars are actually going slightly slower
than their speedometers indicate. It doesn't mean there's
something wrong with your car.
