Is there a parameter which enables me to tell ftp:
"Shut up ftp - get all fitting files and don't ask me any more"

Try "prompt".

Your FTP client must be a bit old. "lukemftp", the enhanced
command-line FTP client available for Linux/*BSD (probably other
systems, you should post the Unix version you're using) will give you a
range of options when you use mget with a glob. One of these options is
"a", get all files matching the glob without prompting.
"ncftp" is also a popular command-line FTP client that can do this. Or
you can use wget, it will match globs too.

Looking at the number of groups you posted to I can't determine what
OS/version your question pertains to, but on my SCO Openserver 5.0.6
system 'man ftp' gives me the following:
-i Turn off interactive prompting during multiple file transfers.
Scott McMillan
'prompt'
Ian.
>If I am using mget to retrieve several files through ftp according to a given file mask
ftp -i
Turns off interactive mode on varietals I use.
either one of those will stop the prompting during multiple file
operations.

ftp -i remote-machine

The prompt command is what you want. This turns off prompting for the
multiple files. Hash is a neat command as well.

Sure. Issue the PROMPT command to toggle the asking off as in:
ftp somplace.domain.com << EOF
user username pw
cd /someplace
binary
prompt
mget *.ps
bye
EOF
