It's been quite a while since I've last used RedHat - actually, it was
CentOS, but that's the same thing - so I don't remember the syntax,
but...
man yum
... will tell you the correct syntax.
It /is/ possible to update only a single package, yes, but you are
probably better off updating the entire system, if security is your
concern.
P.S.: Please don't use Google Groups for posting to Usenet. It
completely screws up the formatting and makes your posts
harder to read. Many people also filter out Google Groups
posts, so you always have a greater chance at getting more
useful replies from knowledgeable people on Usenet by
subscribing to a real news service and setting up a real
news reader.
You can register with one of the many free news servers instead,
such as
http://www.eternal-september.org, and set up a
proper newsreader - e.g. Pan, KNode, Thunderbird, slrn, et al -
with the instructions you get from them via e-mail.
