Can anyone point to a website that explains file pointer vs. streams
vs. file descriptors very well?

Search comes up with
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2423628/whats-the-difference-between-a-file-descriptor-and-file-pointer.
Seems to explain that file descriptor is a "naked (one element of)"
version of file pointer.

But what is a stream? like stdout/stdin.
Some references say stdout is file descriptor 1 <== this sentence is
not exact is it?
stdout is a stream.... what does this mean? thanks
