If anyone here is using Teraterm as their telnet app - please help. I am on
a network using tcp/ip and I can't figure out how to copy files from host to
pc or pc to host. I can't do it from menu or from a ttl macro. I've tried
all their tools, sendfile, filecopy, xmodem, zmodem, kermit...
Anyone here know anything about it?
Steve

It depends what you're telnetting into and if it has the rz/sz and/or
rx/sx utilities. I frequently use teraterm to telnet to my Sun
workstation from home and I download and upload stuff. You need to use
'sz' or 'sx' to send from your remote site to your pc or 'rz' or 'rx'
to receive on your remote site from your pc.

sz, rz for zmodem
sx, rx for xmodem
I don't know the utility for y modem.
zmodem seems to be the best.

Typically, to download a file to my PC I do the following:

on the remote end:
# sz -a sometextfile.txt -a is to send in ascii mode

this starts the process going. You get a strange dialogue/prompt
on the remote end while it waits for your telnet session to start
receiving the file. On your PC, do the 'zmodem receive' to receive
the file.

To send from your PC it's the following:
# rz
You get the strange dialogue/prompt
On your PC, do the 'zmodem send' and it asks you which file/files to send.

Is that clear enough?

Hmmm. That's not what I wanted to hear. Sounds like too many steps just to
copy a file. Plus, I don't have the rz/sz or sz/sx utilities on my host
apparently. When I type in the commands it doesn't know what they are. Let
me say a little more on what is happening. I have two telnet apps, 1 is
Reflections and 2 is Teraterm. I don't like the Reflections emulator, it's
very limited in its emulation, however, it's file transfer ability is sweet.
It's almost like ws-ftp. I Like the Teraterm emulator a lot, but it's
transfer ability apparently sucks! Here's what I just did - From File I
select Send File...I select a file and it sends each line from the file to
the command prompt on the host (which could be dangerous if it is a script
being sent). I also try the Transfer..Kermit..Recieve,send and nothing gets
transfered.

Ok - I have an update. After reading Erics response I know I have Kermit on
the host. So I did as he suggested and got the Kermit prompt on the host
and got the two trading files. Not what I had in mind - but at least it
works. Thanks a million Eric!!!

I don't know about Steve, but at times it's just a lot more
convenient to use 'sz'. I've telnetted from home to work and
the file I want is small and in my current directory. A few
keystrokes and it's downloaded. To do ftp, would take a lot
more keystrokes.

nice day,
