Hey... I guess this question falls into the "is this to good to be true?" bin.
First, if you have it handy, pull out yer Dr. Dobbs Journal out (March issue)
and take a look at page 15.
Now, for those of you that don't have it handy there is a ad from Consensys
Corp that has a offer containing (Infact, I am pretty much copying the ad):
AT&T UNIX System V R 4
Source and Binary Compatible with SCO
Runtime
Berkeley Fast Filesystem, Symbolic Links, Job Control,
C Development
ANSI C Compiler, Sdb Debugger, Cscope Source Browser, Lprof Frequency
Profiler
Networking
RFS and NFS, PC-Interface, TCP/IP, Sockets, Remote Procedure Call
Real-Time Kernal Extensions
XWindows
X11R5 Release, OSF/Motif GUI, X11R5 and OSF/Motif Development Systems
Now, all of this is for.... drum roll please.... $495 2 users and $695 unlimited
users. This price is for the tape media version.
What is the catch?? Is Consensys known for good products??
Any comments on this company or product??

Better still, please post any responses. I read the add and am very
interested as well (as I'm sure many others are). A quick phone call to
Consensys Corp found that the package has been out for 6 months, but I
for one haven't seen it mentioned until now.

Hi y'all.
I just talked to them at CeBit in Hannover, Germany. The price is pretty
fair I think - compare it with DELL's Unix for example. One way for them
to save money is obvioulsy to _not_ include bound manuals. Some install-
ation sheets are included, but the manuals are all online.
Also, they might be interested to get some copies sold before Solaris
hits the market. At CeBit, Sun had a demo running on a standard PC.
It looked quite nice, is distributed on CD-Rom, manuals only online,
and for Interactive-users a low upgrade price of US$ 195.
Sounds pretty neat, eh?
Unfortunately I don't know, whether Consensys' Unix is stable, or
whether they are renowned for their quality. I'm waiting for
Solaris :-)

There is a FAQ in comp.unix.sysv386 that compares the different unix
versions for the 386. The consensys (pun may be intended) is that its the
cheapest, but the support is lousy. I do not have the product so take this
has second hand, and read the FAQ. However if money is a problem, then you
might look into one of the free unixes: LinUX, or BSD386.
