I was wondering if anyone knew of an equivalent of the UNIX command od
(octal dump) for MS Windows or MS-DOS.

Also, does anyone know of a way to switch the bytes when doing an octal
dump on UNIX. I think the file I have is little-endian.

Many thanks in anticipation,
Peter Lauren.

I found a share-ware program called AXE; I use it more for hex dumps.
It is
also GUI-based. If you want a DOS program, I don't know off hand, although

there are GNU/Unix programs that will run on Windows.
From my Unix days, about the only way to handle an endian problem is
with dd. Look at man dd for help on that.

DEBUG can do a hex dump. The DR-DOS version of DEBUG can dump in bytes,
words, or doublewords (little-endian).

For DOS I use good old LIST from Vernon D. Buerg. (Freeware for
personal use). Press Alt-H to toggle between Ascii and Hex format.
It also has a junk filter you can use in ascii mode to make text
strings easier to spot. (But it's far from doing the job of
"cat file | strings | more")

For Windows I use HEdit from Yuri Software (shareware) which
is as the name implies an Hex Editor.
