I've been working on a formal port of p9p at
https://github.com/jasperla/openbsd-wip

With the exception of 9term, it should work on amd64, i386 and powerpc.

Do the Plan9 tools have any particular advantage over the BSD ones?
(I've got no experience with Plan9.)

Well, that's certainly a list of Plan9 tools. :)

What I meant, actually, was *why* are, say, sam and acme, et al., better
(for some value of "better")?

There's hardly another answer to that question than "see for yourself,
it's a matter of personal preference."

For instance, many people like structural regular expressions, acme's
mouse chording, plumbing ... These pages have some useful links:
