Triggering xdm/gdm logon or startx remotely via ssh

Good Evening Newsgroup,

I'd like to air one of my latest idea here. See if anyone can point me
towards a possible solution or tell me that the whole thing is a waste
of time.
I turn on the PC, the machine boots to FreeBSD (albeit, my idea should
apply to Linux, NetBSD and OpenBSD as well, at least I believe) and
stops to wait for user input at an xdm/gdm screen.
Now here, instead of entering a username and password at the console of
this machine, would there be a way to trigger a local xdm/gdm logon via
a network connection, say by connecting to this host via ssh?
I don't mind not being able to see or control the console X desktop
where the logon leads to. The goal is simply to trigger the local X
logon process remotely.
An alternative idea is to attempt this without an xdm/gdm running. Can I
do something logged in remotely via ssh that will result in a console X
desktop just like someone was logged in locally and entered startx?

If you have a suggestion on what to try or what to read, give me a
pointer please!

Replying my own question: the console method works without any
jiggery-pokery. All I do is leave the machine alone while it is waiting
at a CLI console prompt for login. I connect to this machine via SSH
from another host, and run "startx" exactly the same way I would do if I
had logged in locally. And voila, the console switches to X and the user
sitting in front of it can use a fully functional GUI.
