FreeBSD 13.1 creates snapshots automatically during update?

I updated by FreeBSD 13.1 boxes today using freebsd-update. Shortly after
rebooting several boxes I ran out of disk space on a few.

It took me a while to figure out that a ZFS snapshot was created without my
knowlege. I don't recall this ever happening before, is this something new? I
found the same snapshot on all machines I updated today.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening in the future? I've never
changed or configured anything relating to snapshots as I use VMWare snapshots
instead.

root@spool1:/ # zfs list -t snapshot
NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
zroot/ROOT/default@2022-08-16-02:01:01-0 8.62G - 433G -
