Hello. I installed linux-opera following 'browser' section of the
handbook in order to be able to use adobe flash plugin.

now I got opera, how to install flash plugin?

I first tired the obvious way, by going to Get Flash:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
and grab a linux version. When asked I choose tar.gz format.

Getting install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz and extract it I got one
file: libflashplayer.so
(I wonder if it is single file why bother with .tar)

and place the libflashplayer.so to /usr/local/lib/opera/plugins

and start opera. no plug in installed. verified in:
Settings -> Preferences -> Content -> Plug-in options
where there is a list of installed plugins.

second trial is to manually add /usr/local/lib/opera/plugins to plugin
search paths, and restart opera again. still flash not listed in plugins.

3rd trial is to get a flash plugin binary from an ubuntu computer which
already have opera playing youtube movies just fine. The file I grab is
the same, libflashplayer.so, and place it in the same directory on
FreeBSD, result: opera still show no plugin installed.

4nd trial is to install opera-linuxplugins which according to
description is not needed (as is for wrapping netscape plugins) and
retry previous 1, 2 and 3. same bad result.

Someone must have done it before! Otherwise it make no sense for ports
to offer linux-opera as opera has FreeBSD binary distribution. But just
how? Google was my friend but no useful clue from there.

5th trial is to read the FreeBSD handbook and install plugins as
suggested for Firefox. Pretty sure that worked for me.

I have a preference for opera, besides my system is slow.

You misunderstand. Install the Firefox plugins, and they work with Opera.
No need to install Firefox.
