This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup comp.unix.bsd.bsdi.announce.
RATIONALE: remove comp.unix.bsd.bsdi.announce
The last approval was in June 2000. BSD/OS was sold by BSDi to Wind
River Systems in April 2001. Sales were discontinued at the end of
2003, with support discontinue in 2004.
Over the past 12 months, only 20 articles were posted to the
associated discussion group comp.unix.bsd.bsdi.misc, and all but one
were cross-posted to other comp.unix.bsd.* groups. The one
non-cross-posted article specified that the poster used FreeBSD Unix.
The last moderator agreed that there was no reason to keep the group
around, and that it had been several years since he had received a
non-spam submission.
HISTORY:
The newsgroup comp.unix.bsd.bsdi.announce was created in February 1995
as part of a comp.unix.bsd.* reorganization that also created
comp.unix.bsd.bsdi.misc.
The last approval was in June 2000. Over the roughly 5 years of
activity about 100 articles were approved.
CHARTER:
The newsgroup line is:
comp.unix.bsd.bsdi.announce Announcements pertaining to BSD/OS.
The charter (from the CFV):
This newsgroup is for announcements relating to the BSD/OS operating
system. Things appropriate for the .announce group would include
announcements of new versions of BSD/OS, announcements of major
software releases (both commercial and freely redistributable) for
BSD/OS (e.g. new version of X11 for BSD/OS), announcements of fixes
for major bugs, and the like. FAQs relating to BSD/OS should also be
cross-posted to this group.

Those who wish to comment on this request to remove this newsgroup should
subscribe to news.groups.proposals and participate in the relevant threads
in that newsgroup.
To this end, the followup header of this RFD has been set to
news.groups.proposals.
All discussion of active proposals should be posted to news.groups.proposals.
If desired by the readership of closely affected groups, the discussion
may be crossposted to those groups, but care must be taken to ensure that
all discussion appears in news.groups.proposals as well.
