Hello.

I have a problem with a IBM R6000/AIX3.2.5

The file system is damaged and I booted from
BOS boot disk.
After the command 'getrootfs hdisk0' I tried to restore from tape.
The system does not recognize
the tape drive although /dev/rmt0 exists.

The command 'lsdev' returns:
0514-518 Cannot access the CuDv object Class in the device
configuration database

the command 'cfgmgr' returns:
0514-610 Cannot access the PdAt object class in the device
configuration database

the commands 'mkdev -t tape ...' returns
0514-516 Device configuration database lock service timed out

I think some files are missing or corrupted.
Can somebody give me some more hints what is wrong?
I'm new to AIX, therefore: where can I is the device configuration
database stored and how can I access it?
I appreciate your help?

Robby

PS.: Since the R6000 is used as a server, i just have a VT100 console
the tool smit cannot be used.

First, you can 'export TERM=vt100' (or 'TERM=vt100' then 'export TERM'
if you're not in Korn shell) and use SMIT's ASCII version.

Second, there's a good faxback document from AIX support that offers
detailed description of rebuilding your ODM database (which is where
these errors are coming from). I won't try to reproduce it here because
I'd leave something out and make your problem worse.

Hope this helps.
