Hi all!

Just wondering if anyone can point me to a list of Fibre Channel HBAs
supported by AIX 7? Is it just the IBM ones that it provides drivers for
or could I get away with some other manufacturer?

I have an Intellistation 285 I want to stick one in but don't fancy
buying one new from IBM; you can get some cheap Emulex ones for next to
nothing these days :C

Regards,

Chris

Chris, you can use the "cheap Emulex" adapter as long as Emulex provides
the AIX support files needed to make it work. When IBM uses Emulex or
Qlogic or Brocade adapters in the System p boxen, they add "IBM Vital
Product Data (VPD)" to the adapter firmware so that the resulting IBM
part number adapter can be auto-recognized and auto-configured by CfgMgr.

Perform an Internet search on some of the IBM Fiber Channel adapter part
numbers, you might get lucky and find a used IBM FC adapter on eBay or
similar for a very reasonable price.
