I am having a rather irritating issue with smit
and it's print queue maintenance.

If I select to Change characteristics of a print
queue in smit, and then select a queue. I get the
following error message:

1800-109 There are currently no additional
SMIT screen entries available for this
item. This item may require installation of
additional software before it can be accessed.

I checked the smit log file and found the
following error:

[May 03 2000, 09:45:35]
Starting SMIT

FastPath = "top_menu",
id_seq_num = "0",
next_id = "top_menu",

SMIT dialog screen entries available for this
item. This item may require installation of
additional software before it can be accessed.

(Specified sm_cmd_hdr with
id
= "#/var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/smit/#ps_setup_ishp4
.hp@ishp4",
was not found in SMIT/ODM database.)

The printer operates perfectly under AIX, it's
only if I go in to configure it that I get an
issue.

Any help here would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers

Simon

Do the files in /var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/smit exist? Are they size 0?
Are there files in /var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/custom or in
/var/spool/lpd/stat or /var/spool/lpd/qdir which refer to a queue which
doesn't exist?
Are bos.rte.printers and printers.rte filesets installed? (lslpp -l
printers.rte)
cd /var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/custom
/usr/lib/lpd/pio/etc/piodigest <filenamePertainingToQueue> to rebuild
the smit info for the queue.

Paul
