I have a IBM RS390 with AIX 4.1 and Token Ring communication.
I need to change the Mac Address in this machine. How can I do this ?
Please, somebody can help me ??
Just for information, I use the command: lscfg -vl ent0, and the result was:
DEVICE LOCATION DESCRIPTION
ent0 00-00-0E Integrated Ethernet Adapter
Displayable Message.........STANDARD ETHERNET
Network Address.............10005AFA289D
Device Driver Level.........00
Diagnostic Level............00

Hi,
you cannot change the burned-in address of the adapter,
but you can assign an alternate address to it. Because I
prefer smitty to do things:
Call "smitty chgtok" and select your adapter.
The settings are "Enable Alternate Token Ring address"
and "Alternate Token Ring address".
Read the F1 help for these fields before changing.

When I check the last line "apply changes to database only" from "no"
to "yes", I will need to save this change and them reboot the RS...
right ?
Well... to reboot the RS, what kind of command I need to use ??
Sorry, for this questions, but is the first time that I do this kind
of work and I don´t have anybody to give me this information!!
Tks,
Regards
Eduardo

You don't reboot AIX for something like that!
Just rmdev and mkdev the entx Ethernet adapter
device. To do that you must turn off the enx
interface with ifconfig.
The quickest way to reset TCP/IP interfaces
after that and put back your routes is
/etc/methods/cfgif
/etc/methods/cfginet
Greg.
shutdown -Fr will reboot your computer
