How do I check if xdmcp is enabled on my AIX 4 boxes, and if not, how do I
enable it?

xdmcp-broadcast will see only the hosts on the same subnet. To connect
to hosts on a different subnet, use xdmcp-query.

run "ps -ef | grep xdm | grep -v $$" on your AIX box, and if there is
a process running, that's xdm. If it's not running, check if there is
a directory "/usr/lib/X11/xdm". If so, there should be a file
"xdmconf". Run it, re-boot the AIX box, and xdm will run. Or just run
"/usr/bin/X11/xdm". Or you could read the "/usr/lib/X11/xdm/README"
file, but that would be cheating :)

if you have a tty as the console i have found a problem which i do not
have an answer to. you must be logged in on the console in order for
xdmcp to work.

Ignore the message below about CDE not running when you have a tty
console.
