Every 14 minutes 22 seconds (plus or minus a second), I get a message
in /var/adm/messages indicating the following:

tsm: 3004-035 TSM: write to /dev/tty0 failed.

tty0 is defined as the console. If I change the console to tty1, I
get the same results. I have disabled cron, and there are no "at"
jobs. I pretty much turned everything off on the system one day, and
still this message. When this message gets written, the console
screen (noone logged in there) is refreshed, and a lower case p is
inserted at the login prompt (i.e. Login: p). I can login from
the console with no problems. This is just annoying.

How can I track down what process is trying to write to the console?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Todd.

This error appears to be coming from TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager -
backup/restore server). You may have something in the TSM configuration that
is causing the TSM server to write to the console. I'd start by asking your
TSM administrator if they can help identify why TSM is trying to write to
TTY0.

Actually, no. :)

TSM in this context is AIX's 'Terminal State Manager' facility that
handles login connections on serial ports.

What does the original poster's output of this command look like?

# grep tty /etc/inittab

My apologies... Can you tell I'm Tivoli brainwashed?!?

Thank you for the correction, Dan.

Naw, not a problem. We run TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager!) here, too,
and I'm the TSM administrator. Nice product. Too bad there's that
slight namespace collision issue ;) Fortunately, AIX's TSM (terminal...)
rarely comes up as an issue here so we just stick to saying TSM to
mean Tivoli.

Actually, the problem clearly stems from being
poisoned by the evil empire. The second symptom is
not being able to remember things like acronyms.

I don't recall the first symptom....
