I get a 557 error on the led display while booting. IBM tells me it is
an AIX problem they are aware of. They also tell me they don't support
my version of AIX (3.2) and what to sell me an upgrade that won't work
with my Apps. Does anyone know the work around for this.

led557 indicates that your rootfs cannot be mounted, boot
into maintenance mode and check things out...

Since the root fs can not be mounted, while in maint mode, you need to
access rootvg
open a shell BEFORE mounting filesystems.
This gives you VERY limited commands - those that are contained in the
ram filesystem. You might be able to run fsck on hd4. You MAY have
to specify the "-V jfs" option to fsck.

However, worst comes to worst - don't you have a mksysb?

COuld be root filesystem problem OR log volume problem. Try booting in service mode.
Pick the menues to import "rootvg" I haven't run 3.2.5 in a while, but you do NOT want
to mount filesystems - since this is your problem. You may need to
"mount /dev/hd2 /usr" by hand to access the commands and then:
"/usr/sbin/logform /dev/hd8" to reinitialize the log area. Try reboot.
