Hi there,

AIX 4.3.1 question

Am I missing something, or are map files produced by lsvg -M < vgname > the
same files that you would use in mklv -m <mapfile> ?

Example.

lsvg -M produces output such as:
hdisk20:102 lv001:1
hdisk20:103 lv001:2
hdisk20:104 lv001:3
hdisk20:105 lv001:4
hdisk20:106 lv001:5

but mklv -m needs the following format (so say the man pages) :

hdisk20:102
hdisk20:103
hdisk20:104
hdisk20:105
hdisk20:106

If I try to mklv with the mapfile in the original format, I get the
following error messages:

>
> 0516-418 allocp: Illegal data on standard input map line 4.
> 0516-822 mklv: Unable to create logical volume.
>

The error is exactly the same, no matter how long the map file is ( as long
as it is at least 4 lines !)

Is there something mystical about line 4 :-)

What's happenin' ???

You should use maps as man page suggests :)

BTW ...

# cat map
hdisk20:106 lv001:5
# mklv -m map rootvg 1
0516-418 allocp: Illegal data on standard input map line 1.

0516-822 mklv: Unable to create logical volume.

Nothing mystical about 4th line :-)
