Guys ,

I have a striped lv in a Volume Group and there are 12 hard disks on
it.

I would like to increase the file system by adding one more disk to it
. SO is it possible to do it

online without recreating the lv.Any other better options for this

I believe it will let you extend the VG and chfs will grow your
filesytem, but the new disk won't be striped. In order to maintain the
integrity of your striped LV you will need to backup and restore the
data to a larger striped LV.

this is a problem with AIX LVM.... Unfortunately, AIX won't let you
concatenate a luns to a striped LV, unless you maintain the stripe
width. You can extend your LV by the same number of LUNs, though. In
your case, you would have to add 12 disks to your vg. Do a "chlv -u 24
<lv>", "chlv -x #m <lv>", "extendlv", "chfs".... This being said, when
you "extendlv", you do not have to use the same # of pp's. So if you
only need a little space, you can only allocate a tiny portion of those
12 disks - you just need to stripe across all of them...

I've asked IBM repeatedly why we can't have concatenated stripes of
varying stripe width... still haven't received a good answer....
they'll probably put in a change request... but until then, you're
better off using a real OS with a real volume manager. Solaris with
disksuite!

Thanks for the answer

My question was specific to the File system whether it needs to be
recreated again to have the additional disk . Or is it that i just need
to add one disk and extend the vg ?
