Dear all,

Anyone can tell me how to remove a defined hdisk from the system. I have
tried to use diag -a. Since there are a number of device the diag
complained, I have just selected all the non-existing hdisk from the
system and type F10 to exit. However, I still can see the hdisk when I
checked with "lsdev -Cc disk" command. If I go in the "diag -a" again,
the removed hdisk still on the list.

Does anyone can tell me how to commit the change in "diag -a" or tell me
what is the correct step on removing the removed hdisk from the system.

Thanks in advance,
Sang.

In article <6hkdfj$do0$1...@tst.hk.super.net>,
Try 'rmdev -l hdiskX -d'
This will remove the device hdiskX and delete it from the ODM. 'cfgmgr' is a
better command to run to get the system to re-configure itself from installed
and verified devices.
Have fun.

Preliminary steps to removing an hdisk :

1) Backup and remove filesystems.

2) Remove disk from volume group (reducevg), or if it's a single
disk VG then varyoffvg and exportvg the VG.

3) rmdev -l hdisk# (i.e. hdisk2, hdisk3) -- or use 'smit devices'

4) It seems you are here <--------

If the disk is defined and not available according to lsdev -Cc disk,
then powering off the system and removing the disk will prevent
cfgmgr from picking it up at boot time. Make sure to run
lsdev again to make sure it's out of the ODM.

5) If it's an SSA drive, you've also got to run rmdev -dl pdisk#

diag -a will work if you physically remove a disk without running
rmdev first. Then it's still defined in the ODM and that's a no-no.

Hope that's helpful.

Regards, Jon
