I am looking for information/newsgroups on this badboy(RS/6000 running AIX
and OS/390). I also need to know of any contractors/companies besides IBM
that will perform system adminstrator/programmer duties. Any info is
helpful.

Whats the problem? My shop has both OS/390 mainframes and AIX on an

other reasonably well.

OS/390 has been ported to run on RS/6000's. Some development
organizations use the port so they don't have to buy a mainframe
to do their work. I only know this second hand, having spoken
with one such developer, but this may be what the original post
referred to.

I don't know of any newsgroups, but there is a FAQ at:

Hi! We also have an R/390 and we hired an additional Systems
Programmer to handle the OS/390 side of things and we use in-house AIX
experience to handle the AIX side of things. I'm not familiar with any
contractors available to support the P/390 or the R/390.

Peace.....

The chance that a gazillion lines of code in assembler for the s/390
architecture is ported to the risc architecture boggles the imagination.

I doubt this is a native mode port he is referencing. There is a 390 card
for
Microchannel machines that runs the OS/390 implementation. I have not seen
many people use it, but support for it comes from the 390 camp, and not the
RS/6000 group.

Actually, the code has not been ported. There is version (rare) of the
RS6k that has a 390 type processor. So it really runs native OS/390.

Is there a special newsgroup for the p/390 and r/390 models?
