We have a network that consists of Solaris ( 2.4 ) and RS6000 (3.2 / 4.1.4)
machines. One of the Solaris machines is configured as the master NIS server,
while the others, including the RS6000 machine(s) are configured as Clients.
One of the RS6000 machines is running 3.2 and the other 4.1.4. The one running
3.2 works perfectly as an NIS client, while the other running 4.1.4, will not
allow NIS users to login. The error message appears to be an "Authentication"
problem. I can see the contents of the NIS tables when you execute commands

do you have a
+::::::
line in /etc/passwd? You may try smitty yp then change nis config, remove
a client config and add it back to make it update this.
