Will a 3-B PCI 8port serial and a 16port remote async node (09P4096) work?

Hi,

I've gathered two rather odd pieces separately and wonder if they will
actually work together.

One is a 16port serial interface box called "remote async node" - it
seems it can be daisy-chained to hook up 128 terminal ports to a RS/
6000 box. It came with AIX drivers and seems to be just a relabeled
DIGI port server.
There was ISA and MCA "128port serial interface" cards which appear to
just be a highspeed serial port, and maybe a PCI version, not sure on
that one, and never seen one of them yet.

But in a pile I also found the 3-B 8port-serial card, which also would
work fine on AIX.

Does one of you have experience with the "remote async node" and know
if I can wire them up into the 8port card?

Any replies appreciated - if possible please send me a copy off-group.

Hi Florian,

You can't.

The 16-port RAN must be connected to the 128-port serial adapter (which
doesn't really have 128 ports onboard). If I recall correctly, you can
connect up to 4 RANs (daisy-chained) per port on the adapter.

The 3-B 8port-serial card does have 8 real RS232 ports on board. You're
supposed to connect it to a cable that ends in a plastic box with 8 DB-25
connectors.
