I am thinking of switching from PowerPath to MPIO for my 5.2 systems.
Are there any functons or performance features that I will be giving up
when moving from PowerPath?

yeah, one more -- for some unknown reason it doesn't see CLARiiON disks
as MPIO capable... Have not have any problems with Symmetrix storages
so far...

Hi,

MPIO is supported for EMC Symmetrix, TODAY there is no support for EMC
CLARiiON.

You need to Install or Upgrade the EMC ODM Definitions Version 5.2.0.1
If installed, remove the filset "EMC.Symmetrix.fcp.rte",
install the filset "EMC.Symmetrix.fcp.MPIO.rte"
(ftp://ftp.emc.com/pub/symm3000/aix/ODM_DEFINITIONS/EMC.AIX.5.2.0.1.tar.Z)

The MPIO algorithm "round_robin" is supported for luns controlled by
HACMP.
The reservation setting "no_reserve" and the algorithm "round_robin"
are not supported on rootvg or any lun not controlled by HACMP.

For "normal" VolumeGroups, "round_robin" can not be used. Only one fcp
will be active. Compared to EMC PowerPath, your performance will be
decreaded !

You should refer to the EMC Support Matrix or the E-Lab Navigator, too.
(http://www.emc.com/interoperability/ or http://powerlink.emc.com/

I hope, this will help

Best regards,

Swen

The Link to the whole EMC Support Matrix is:
http://www.emc.com/interoperability/matrices/EMCSupportMatrix.zip

The E-Lab Navigator is a searchable, web-based application that
provides access to EMC interoperability support matrices. Using the
guided query, you can retrieve information for developing a
fully-tested, open, and comprehensive multi-vendor networked storage
infrastructure.

For to use E-Lab Navigator, logon to EMC PowerLink and go to Home >
Support > Interoperability > eLab Navigator > Launch E-Lab Navigator

Regards,

Swen
