I need to access files on an NT Server from an AIX client machine,
preferably so that the NT server directory looks like just another NFS
mounted file system.

I have read a little about FastConnect for Windows, but it seems to
allow an AIX server to act like an NT server so that NT clients can
easily access it, not the other way around. I looked a little at Samba
as well, but it seems to be the same as Fast Connect.

Is there an easy solution to this problem? Our AIX OS is at 4.3.2.

Thanks,
Ken Clark

What you are looking for is an NFS server for WinNT. Hummingbird makes one
called 'NFS Maestro'. I've never used it, so I can't give more details. I'mm
sure there are many other companies that make NFS server software for WinNT.

If you don't want to buy Hummingbird or spend the money on FastConnect,
SAMBA works great. There is an IBM redpaper
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpapers/abstracts/redp0023.html that discusses
setting up SAMBA for LINIX (an AIX implementation will be similar with a few
differences).

Also, you can get the latest version of SAMBA for AIX from
http://www-frec.bull.com/. A great site, in my opinion .......

Have fun

Use DiskShare from Intergraph - It's great.

Be also aware off, that you can use the rcp command from the NT box
to AIX.

Unfortunately, SAMBA on AIX won't do what was asked for: to mount NT folders on
UNIX. Only SAMBA on LINUX has this capability.

Try Sharity:
http://www.obdev.at/Products/Sharity.html

Quote from their homepage:
"Sharity is a client for the CIFS (Common Internet FileSystem)
protocol, formerly known as SMB (Server Message Block) protocol. This
protocol is currently used by WindowsNT, Windows95, Windows for
Workgroups, OS/2, samba and many others. Sharity allows you to mount
directories exported by those systems as if they were NFS exported."
