Dear all,

I encountered the following error when updating the lpp bos.rte.control.
I download the fileset bos.rte.control.4.2.1.12 from IBM which, when update,
will return the following error. What did it deal with shutdown? What can
I do to correct this?

Any idea?

I encountered this problem while doing year2000 patches on 4.2.1 ...You need to
create a group called shutdown, with group ID set to 21...Then reapplyu the
patch for bos.rte.control

That will fix it.

Hi -

Have you checked to ensure that the group shutdown exists? From my system:

-r-sr-x--- 1 root shutdown 2048 Sep 15 21:58 exec_shutdown

Regards,
Rich.

I would say that you removed the 'shutdown' group from the /etc/groups
file... Now you now why you should
never remove system generated groups or users. (try removing user 'nobody',
and then use tftp or nfs as root from another system)

Hope this was the solution, regards,
