In the initial processes before getting to step 1 below, the screen said
when importing VG rootvg
checking /file system
/dev/hd4 primary superblock is valid
Checking the /usr file system
/dev/hd2 primary superblock is valid
Step 1 got into VG info screen before mounting any file system.
Step 2 at all the # fsck -y /dev/hdx commands, it said each file system was
clean
Step3 #/usr/sbin/logform /dev/hd8 answered yes to destroy and got no
messages back only # curser prompt.
the step here gives no clue as to answer yes or no.
Step4 #lslv -m hd5 and it gave a two line reply saying hdisk1 both times.
Have hdisk0, hdisk1 and hdisk2 in system.
Step5 #bosboot -a -d /dev/hdisk1 said bosboot not found
The manual does not say what to do when this happens.
#find / -name bosboot returned nothing
#bootinfo -y returned 64
#bootlist -m normal -o returned Killed
#bosboot -a -d /dev/hdisk1 still said bosboot not found
Thinking I must have a hardware failure took out AIX bos DVD and put in
diagnostics cd, rebooted, but was too slow at the beeps to press 5
and the machine booted up to AIX 5.3 okay and has been operating okay all
today. Still did a hardware check and found all okay.
Two questions please
(1)What caused the initial boot failure and what did I correct in the above
5 step process to allow it to inadvertly boot up ok to bos.
Mystified as to why it said bosboot not found.
(2)The machine took 29 minutes to get from start up with the bos DVD in to
finally giving me the first maintenance screen after typing 1
for English. With a PowerPC_POWER3 processor and 2Gb of ram why did it take
so long.
Thanks
Basil
