i have just upgraded two machines (RS/6000 model 520's) to AIX 3.2.5
using a bootable AIX 3.2.5 tape created on 08/08/94. One machine
was upgraded and the other machine was cloned from the first using a
mksysb backup. Both machines are connected to our Ethernet Network
via 10baseT, a transceiver and a AUI cable. The two machines were
given the following names and IP addresses:

128.173.99.105 mfgse1.isse.tv.edu
128.173.99.106 mfgse2.isse.tv.edu

I go into the Network Interface Selection of TCP/IP using 'smitty inet'
and delete the en0 Standard Ethernet Network Interface. Then I re-add
it as follows:

Network Interface Name en0
Internet Address 128.173.99.105
Network Mask 255.255.252.0
Use Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)? yes

I then go into the Minimum Configuration & Startup using 'smitty mktcpip'
and fill in the following information:

Hostname mfgse1.isse.tv.edu
Internet Address 128.173.99.105
Network Mask 255.255.252.0
NAMESERVER 128.173.42.447
Domain isse.tv.edu
Default Gateway Address 128.173.118.1
Your Cable Type dix

When I hit enter here I keep getting the following:

Usage: hostid [HexNumber or InternetAddress or Hostname]
/usr/bin/mktcpip: Problem with hostid command, return code = 1

When I issue the 'hostid' command outside of smitty I get the following
for the respective machine:

mfgse1.isse.tv.edu 0x80ad5b73
mfgse2.isse.tv.edu 0x80ad5b74

I have checked other machines around the University and I cannot locate
any erroneous input! I have checked and rechecked my information to no
avail. Do you have any suggestions or are you aware of any bugs? I have
been working on this for 2+ days now and I don't know what else to try.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!
