Hi All,

We are trying to use the enq -m 'message to op' format of enq to control

and mount special forms and we are getting strange results. The operator

gets a message and then it takes the que down and a weird message comes
back to the printing user saying "UNKNOWN".
Is anyone having success with this method? What might we be doing
wrong. I thought up till now AIX messages were pretty good but "UNKOWN"

it not very specific. Has anyone had any experience using this option
of Enq?

When you do an lpstat or enq -A you're checking for the status of the print
queues from the stat files in /var/spool/lpd/stat. A status of UNKNOWN
usually indicates that the status of the queue cannot be determined from the

stat file. It could be a full /var, bogus files in /var/spool/lpd/stat, or
the
qdaemon is running but "hung". Does stopsrc -cs qdaemon ; startsrc -s
qdaemon free up the printer in the UNKNOWN status?

Regards,
Paul
