Guys,

I've done some research on this problem and it appears the B150F22A
problem can be attributed to firmware and can possibly be resolved by
applying a more up to date version.

However on the serial console i'm unable to see any startup codes
after i've told the server to power up through ASMI. Basically it logs
me out of ASMI as expected but nothing shows on the screen so I don't
get the opportunity to hit 1 after keyboard appears on the screen ?

Does anybody have any ideas why this is occuring ? - I guess the comms
are set correctly as I can use ASMI fine.

Maybe it reaches the B150F22A stage before I would have seen the
keyboard appear on the screen, if this is the case how would I be able
to boot from CD anyway ?

Any thoughts on this one greatly appreciated.

Mike.

Some docs mention to power down the machine AND unplug the power cord.
Then wait a few seconds, replug and power on again.

Thanks for the reply - I did see this article and tried powering off
and removing cables for several hours to no avail. I've since managed
to get the startup codes appearing on the console screen now and as
expected the B150F22A code does arrive before I have the option to
break out into the SMS menu.

In ASMI i've told the server to boot into SMS but not joy either

Is there any way to get the server to boot from the diag CD ? - I
guess as this problem is occuring so early in the startup process it
may not be possible.

You could try to get into the Openfirmware prompt - configure this
from the ASMI - and select from their to boot from the CD or default
bootlist*
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/wikis/display/WikiPtype/Boot+Process+on+POWER
Of course it will not work in case the error comes up even before the
firmware prompt.

Its just an idea and i have never tried it.

*I do not know of you can set boot list from the ASMI or not.

Addendum

How to apply a firmware update from a USB stick - no need to boot into
SMS / OFP

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/systems/scope/hw/topic/ipha5/fix_firm_usb.htm

In case these steps will fail i suggest to open a PMR with IBM

Thanks for this - I tried the openfirwareprompt but alas the same
outcome. I've not tried the USB stick option, might reseatch this
further 1st.
