I got your e-mail. I don't know if our solution relates to you, but
using "mount -o proto=tcp $HOST:/$MOUNTPOINT" got disk mounts working
^^^^^^^^^
with port checking turned on. A colleague came up with the option.

I've also seen permission problems in Solaris when the whole domainized
hostname wasn't used. (i.e. "foo.usc.edu" instead of just "foo")
