Dear Sirs,

I installed the traceroute on a solaris 2.5.1

It seams to work but any ip address I try the command with will only
show me 1 hop and after the amount of ms for that only hop the sign !H
appears.

In the manpage file there is no explanation for !H

Could you please let me know if I am doing something wrong or I should
make some changes in order to be able to correctly use the command.

Thank you very much,

Mario Desiderio

From the traceroute(8) man page:

Other possible annotations after the time are !H, !N, or !P
(got a host, network or protocol unreachable, respectively),
!S or !F (source route failed or fragmentation needed - nei-
ther of these should ever occur and the associated gateway
is busted if you see one), !X (communication administra-
tively prohibited), or !<N> (ICMP unreachable code N). If
almost all the probes result in some kind of unreachable,
traceroute will give up and exit.

As for your situation: What is your network layout? Is there
a firewall involved ?

Hi
!H means : Host is unreachable.. The ms is the time after which it times
out. The hop count being 1 means that the packet you sent could not go
beyond the first machine in the path. Normally that would be the gateway
or the IP route you specified in your routing table..

Good luck
