: Hi everyone!
: I am desperately looking for "down to earth" , step by step
: UNIX system administration book..
: I am having enormous difficulties trying to understand
: .twmrc .login .cshrc files...
Hmm... those files are more related to the very basics
of Unix ... should be explained in 'for dummies-haters-etc'
series.
: I noticed that you can do a lot of pretty thing wiht .twmrc
This is one is related to X11 stuff, which is ususally
covered in other books, dedicated to X11
: (If I only understand how could I do it..)
: Maybe what I am looking for is not a Sys. Admin. book..
: since it won't tell me about .twmrc....etc
: Anyway, I could also use really a good book on Unix System Admin.
The Bible for Unix Admins should be Unix Sys. Administration Book
by Nemeth,Snyder and Co. :) - covers a lot of topics ... very
good one - go for a second edition
Rashid
: Thanks in Anticipation!

About 300 pages. The 2ed is much revised and updated - it's certainly
worth getting, since it covers Unix versions that either didn't exist
in 1991 or have changed significantly in that time. O'Reilly used to
have a deal in which you'd send in some part of the front of the book
(I think the title page) and they'd give you a discount on the
latest revision... It's probably worth checking out (http://www.ora.com)
or dropping them a line (try or...@ora.com).

I don't remember much, but it mentions HP 9.0 & 10.0 (that's us) and I also
noticed the number of pages seems to be *much* greater. We have the
current version but have just ordered the new one.
Old pages: 440
New page count: 700+ (I believe)
If you have WWW access, you can check www.ora.com.

Nemeth, Snyder, Seebass, Hein
ISBN 0-13-151051-7

But even ora's wep page ( www.ora.com) tells something about the first
edition (8.11.95, hey ora wake up )
It has about 760 pages, but I can't tell you the difference to the first
edition
altough it covers HP-UX 10.x, Solaris 2.x, ... and (yeah!) LINUX

O'Reilly still does have a %25 discount on any of their updated books, if
you send in the title page of your previous edition. The E.S.A. book lists
for about $33; the %25 discount (+ shipping cost) will still save you a few
bucks over most local bookstores prices (+ tax). This book and the highly
recommended "UNIX Sytem Administration Handbook" (Nemeth, et.al.) make for a
nice dog-eared pair for both beginner and seasoned sysadmins. My only gripe
with the Nemeth book is the total omission of AIX stuff. But then again,
perhaps the authors are from the "AIX stands for Ain't UNIX" camp ;-)
