Hi,

Does anybody know about performance measurements comparing
Ethernet unicast to broadcast (using IP multicast addresses)?

I'm running some UDP/IP benchmarks and I constantly get
better performance (i.e. smaller message roundtrip delays)
for unicast over broadcast.
(I don't know if I'm making a systematic measurement error;
my understanding is that the performance should be the same.)

Thanks for any help in advance,

I think we should first clearify few things. There are three basic
mode of transfer: unicast, multicast and broadcast. Multicast is done
typical using multicast-ip. Are you comparing multicast-ip versus
ip/udp? You should look at "www.mlds.com". They provide reliable
multicast-ip based protocol and their manual has some benchmark
information on unicast vs. multicast.
