WE are installing ntalk.

I keep getting error message:
talk ntalk/udp service is not registered

What does this mean.

I added this to /etc/services
ntalk dgram udp wait root /opt/local/common/etc/ntalkd ntalkd

and restarted inetd???

Also, where is the official release for sources and /or Solaris 2.4
binaries for this.

That looks like an /etc/inetd.conf entry, not a services entry. You need
to add

ntalk 518/udp

to /etc/services, then run ypmake if you are using yp.
